Sensex down 85pts; Hindalco surges 6%

The Sensex is now down 85 points at 16,002.

The NSE Nifty is flat at 4,828.

Tata Motors and Satyam have plunged 4.3% each to Rs 650 and Rs 395, respectively. TCS has shed 2.3% at Rs 859.

Larsen & Toubro has dropped 1.7% to Rs 2,994. Reliance, ICICI Bank, Infosys and Ranbaxy have slipped around 1.5% each to Rs 2,262, Rs 830, Rs 1,474 and Rs 442, respectively.

Maruti and HDFC are down over 1% each at Rs 835 and Rs 2,626, respectively.

Hindalco has surged 5.7% to Rs 171. ITC has moved up 2.3% to Rs 200.

Cipla, Jaiprakash Associates and Ambuja Cements have rallied nearly 2% each to Rs 210, Rs 230 and Rs 124, respectively.

DLF and Hindustan Unilever have advanced around 1.5% each to Rs 668 and Rs 238, respectively.

HDFC Bank is up 1% at Rs 1,456.

Out of 2,683 stocks traded so far, 1,474 have advanced, 1,156 have declined and 53 are unchanged.
