Sensex down 8pts; NTPC surges 2%

The Sensex opened marginally higher and tocuhed a high of 14,525, before slipping into red to a low of 14,474. The index is now down eight points at 14,491.

NTPC has surged 2% to Rs 153. Reliance Energy has gained 1% at Rs 566.

Gujarat Ambuja, Maruti and Reliance have slipped around 1% each to  Rs 118, Rs 753 and Rs 1,716, respectively.

HDFC and BHEL are the other major losers at Rs 1,833 and Rs 1,470, respectively.
