Sensex down 947pts; Bajaj Auto gains 4%

The Sensex is now down 947 points at 16,658.

The NSE Nifty is down 313 points at 4,896.

Ambuja Cements, HDFC and Wipro have plunged around 10% each to Rs 114, Rs 2,425 and Rs 397, respectively.

ONGC and Reliance Energy have slumped around 9.5% each to Rs 1,005 and Rs 1,605, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra has tumbled over 9% to Rs 610. Cipla and Tata Steel have shed 8% each at Rs 175 and Rs 664, respectively.

DLF, Hindalco, ITC and Hindustan Unilever have dropped around 7.5% each to Rs 833, Rs 153, Rs 188 and Rs 185, respectively.

Bajaj Auto has surged nearly 4% to Rs 2,140.

Out of 2,320 stocks traded so far, 2,217 have declined, 80 have advanced and 23 are unchanged.
