The Sensex is now down 493 at 12,033.
Tata Power, Jaiprakash Associates and Sterlite have tumbled around 11% each to Rs 791, Rs 103 and Rs 352, respectively.
DLF has crashed nearly 9% to Rs 307. Tata Steel and Reliance Communications have slumped over 8% each to Rs 361 and Rs 306, respectively.
Reliance Infrastructure has shed 7.6% at Rs 685, and BHEL has slumped 6.5% to Rs 1,465.
TCS has dropped over 6% to Rs 616, and Infosys has shed 5.7% at Rs 1,311.
Grasim and Ranbaxy have slipped around 5% each to Rs 1,666 and Rs 251, respectively.
Out of 2,458 stocks traded so far, 2,123 have declined, 299 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
