Sensex down nearly 500pts; L&T plunges 11%

The Sensex has drifted deeper into red and is now down 476 points at 11,007.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has slumped nearly 11% to Rs 895. Jaiprakash Associates has plunged 8.8% to Rs 78.

BHEL and Tata Steel have shed 7.5% each at Rs 1,378 and Rs 282, respectively.

Sterlite, Maruti and ICICI Bank have tumbled 7% each to Rs 302, Rs 669 and Rs 417, respectively.

Reliance Infrastructure has slipped over 6% to Rs 593. Reliance Communications, HDFC and Infosys have dropped around 5.5% each to Rs 254, Rs 1,742 and Rs 1,324, respectively.

Tata Motors, ITC, Bharti Airtel and Satyam are down 4.5% each at Rs 285, Rs 161, Rs 730 and Rs 276, respectively.

 

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,342 stocks traded so far, 1,847 have declined, 447 have advanced and 48 are unchanged.
