Sensex down over 100pts; SBI, DLF drop 5%

The Sensex has extended losses and is now down 115 points at 8,800. Earlier in the day, the index has opened 74 points lower at 8,841, slipped to a low of 8,709, and then rallied to a high of 9,042.

Sterlite has slumped 6.4% to Rs 205. ICICI Bank has tumbled 5.7% to Rs 316.

SBI and DLF have plunged 5% each to Rs 1,124 and Rs 188, respectively.

Satyam and HDFC Bank have shed around 4.5% each at Rs 230 and Rs 820, respectively.

Grasim and Mahindra & Mahindra have slipped 3% each to Rs 300 and Rs 905, respectively.

 

HDFC has dropped nearly 3% to Rs 1,360. Reliance Communications, Tata Steel, Reliance and ONGC are down around 1.5% each. 

TCS has surged 3.4% to Rs 524. Reliance Infrastructure has gained 3% at Rs 500.

Infosys and Tata Motors have advanced 1.5% each to Rs 1,202 and Rs 135, respectively.

The market breadth is negative - out of 2,233 stocks traded so far, 1,214 have declined, 939 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
