The Sensex dropped to a low of 14,656, and is now down 207 points at 14,693.
Sterlite has slumped 11% to Rs 513. Tata Steel has plunged over 5% to Rs 535.
Tata Power has tumbled 4% to Rs 1,043, and ICICI Bank has shed 3% at Rs 691.
Reliance Infrastructure has dropped 2.8% to Rs 1,041. Reliance and HDFC Bank have slipped around 2.5% each to Rs 2,087 and Rs 1,262, respectively.
BHEL and Bharti Airtel have declined 2% each to Rs 1,711 and Rs 819, respectively.
Maruti and ONGC are down around 1.5% each at Rs 697 and Rs 1,085, respectively.
ACC is up 1% to Rs 603.
Out of 2,602 stocks traded so far, 1,634 have declined, 871 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
