Sensex drops 59pts; Kalpatru zooms 19%

A fresh round of selling pulled down the Sensex to a low of 10,556 - down 134 points from the day's high. The index is now down 59 points at 10,568.

Tata Motors is up over 3% at Rs 890. Maruti, Bharti and Tata Power have gained over 1% each at Rs 914, Rs 401 and Rs 541, respectively.

Hero Honda has tumbled 2.7% to Rs 875. HDFC has slipped over 2% to Rs 1,327.

TCS and ITC have shed 1.8% each to Rs 1,711 and Rs 174, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro has dropped 1.6% to Rs 2,435.

ICICI Bank and Infosys have declined 1.5% each at Rs 611 and Rs 2,812.

Gujarat Ambuja, NTPC, Hindalco and Wipro are down over 1% each at Rs 90.20, Rs 131, Rs 157 and Rs 525, respectively.

The marked breadth is fairly negative. Out of 2,531 stocks traded so far, 1,530 have declined, 922 have advanced and 79 are unchanged.

Kalpatru Power has soared over 19% to Rs 1,285. RPG Transmission, Shanti Gears, Nagarjuna Constructions, Educomp Solutions and Hindustan Zinc have surged 10-15% each. Aban Loyd, Voltas, Gati, Jyoti Structure, Titan, Essel Propack and Jindal Steel have also posted smart gains.

Sunil Hi-Tech has plunged over 9% to Rs 142. Videocon Appliances, Reliance Natural Resources, Rane Holdings, FACT, IndusInd Bank, Ashok Leyland and Canare Bank are in the declining mode.
