Sensex drops nearly 300pts; NTPC, DLF shed 4%

Weakness continues to the financial sector and select other stocks. The Sensex is now down 282 points at 14,408.

SBI has plunged 4% to Rs 1,388. HDFC Bank has shed 3.8% at Rs 1,191, and ICICI Bank has dropped 2.5% to Rs 661. HDFC has slipped nearly 2% to Rs 2,269.

NTPC, Jaiprakash Associates and DLF have tumbled around 3.5% each to Rs 177, Rs 165 and Rs 493, respectively.

ONGC, Reliance Infrastructure and BHEL have shed over 2% each to Rs 1,011, Rs 987 and Rs 1,698, respectively.

Hindustan Unilever, Grasim and Reliance Communications have declined 2% each to Rs 238, Rs 1,988 and Rs 407, respectively.

 

Wipro and Larsen & Toubro are also down nearly 2% each to Rs 425 and Rs 2,665, respectively.

Tata Motors has gained 2.3% at Rs 434.
