Sensex eases, heavyweights dip

The market has slipped into negative territory after a firm opening and a steady mid-morning trades. Selling in heavyweights, banking and other select old economy counters has pushed the index into the red. The Sensex is now down 10 points at 6,564. The Nifty, too, has shed gains and is flat at 2,055.

Reliance has eased with a per cent loss (Rs 4) at Rs 543. While ITC, too, has slipped a per cent (Rs 9) to Rs 1,287, HLL has inched lower by 1.12% (Rs 2) to Rs 141.

SBI has lost a per cent (Rs 7) to Rs 683, while HDFC Bank has edged lower by 2.10% (Rs 12) to Rs 564. ICICI Bank, however, is marginally up at Rs 371.

BHEL has slipped a per cent (Rs 7) to Rs 853, while HDFC has lost 1.37% (Rs 11) to Rs 761. Reliance Energy has shed 1.55% (Rs 9) to Rs 554. Hindalco has clocked a per cent gain (Rs 11) to Rs 1,386.

Infosys is trading off-highs with a gain of Rs 7 at Rs 2,169. While Satyam is up 1.37% (Rs 5) at Rs 403, Wipro is trading a per cent lower (Rs 6) at Rs 672.

Hero Honda has declined 1.97% (Rs 11) to Rs 526, and Tata Motors is down a rupee at Rs 470. Maruti is up a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 475.

ONGC continues to trade at higher levels, and the counter is now up 2.69% (Rs 22) at Rs 839.
