Sensex edge past 6,800-mark; RIL, SBI buoyant

Strong wave of buying support in select heavyweights, banking and other old economy stocks has propelled the gains of the index in mid-morning trades.

The Sensex, which breached the 6,800-mark to touch a high of 6,814, is now up 54 points at 6,807. The Nifty has crossed the 2,100-mark to 2,106 - up 14 points.

Reliance has advanced 1.71% (Rs 9) to Rs 564 as settlement between the waring brothers seems to be on track. ONGC has logged a per cent gain (Rs 10) to Rs 936.

SBI has scaled up 2.18% (Rs 14) to Rs 681. While ICICI Bank has added 1.38% (Rs 5) to Rs 401, HDFC Bank, after a weak opening, has gained a per cent (Rs 4) to Rs 543.

NTPC has advanced 3.86% (Rs 3) to Rs 86. L&T, which secured an order from Oman Cement company, has jumped 1.61% (Rs 18) to Rs 1,111. Reliance Energy at Rs 556 (up Rs 10 or 1.85%) and HDFC at Rs 775 (up Rs 8 or 1.10%) are trading with decent gains.

TCS, which made is debut in the BSE-30 Sensex, has added a per cent (Rs 9) to Rs 1,291. While Infosys is up Rs 4 to Rs 2,247), Satyam is flat at Rs 467. Wipro, however, remains lacklustre at Rs 720 - down Rs 3.

Bajaj has moved up a per cent (Rs 12) to Rs 1,285. Maruti, too, is up with a per cent gain (Rs 3) at Rs 455.
