The Sensex opened with a huge positive gap of 94 points at 10,321. Fresh buying in early trades saw the index spurt to a high of 10,408. However, the index could not hold gains for long as selling in frontline technology and select old economy stocks dragged the index in the negative zone. Unabated selling in the market saw the index drop below the physchological 10,000-mark to a low of 9973 - down 435 points from the day's high. The Sensex finally settled with a loss of 219 points at 10,007. In the process, the index has shed almost 8.5% (923 points) in the last five trading sessions. |
