Sensex ends at 8,800

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of nine points at 8,707, which also turned out to be the low for the day. Sustained buying in tech scrips, auto and Reliance saw the index zoom to a high of 8,809. The Sensex finally closed with a gain of 102 points (1.2%) at 8,800.

Reliance moved up 1.5% (Rs 12) to Rs 806. While ONGC was up Rs 10 at Rs 1,079, SBI added Rs 12 to Rs 957.

Infosys advanced 3% (Rs 76) to Rs 2,629. Wipro zoomed over 5% (Rs 20) to Rs 400. While Satyam was up 2.5% (Rs 14) at Rs 589, TCS declined Rs 8 to Rs 1,489.

Auto scrips continued to add gains today. Bajaj moved up over 2% (Rs 42) to Rs 1,810. Tata Motors was up 3% (Rs 16) at Rs 569, and Hero Honda added 2.6% (Rs 19) to Rs 768. Maruti was up Rs 11 at Rs 589.

HDFC Bank gained 4.7% (Rs 32) to Rs 710. BHEL zoomed 4% (Rs 50) to Rs 1,295.

Dr. Reddy's was firm right through the session, and closed with a gain of over 3% (Rs 29) at Rs 911. L&T moved up Rs 15 to Rs 1,537.

ACC, Grasim, Hindalco, Tata Steel and Bharti also finished with gains.
