Sensex ends at new peak, up 62pts at 10,173

The Sensex touched a new all-time intra-day high of 10,183 towards the closing bell. Earlier in the day, the index had slipped to a low of 10,096. The index finally settled with a gain of 62 points at a record closing high of 10,173.

Larsen & Toubro soared to a high of Rs 2,516, before settling with a significant gain of 8% at Rs 2,499. BHEL moved up 3% to Rs 1,892.

Grasim surged 4.8% to Rs 1,649. Gujarat Ambuja shed 1.7% at Rs 86.50.

Tata Motors rallied 5% to Rs 791. Maruti advanced 1.3% to Rs 777. Hero Honda, however, slipped 2% to Rs 906.

Ranbaxy gained 2.5% at Rs 443. Dr.Reddy's declined 1.2% to Rs 1,190. Cipla was up 0.7% at Rs 565. The stock touched a new all-time high of Rs 587 following the announcment of a 3:2 bonus issue.

Tata Power and Reliance Energy were up 1% each at Rs 510 and Rs 616, respectively. However, NTPC ended with a loss of 1% at Rs 120.

While ICICI Bank added 1% to Rs 609, HDFC Bank dropped 2% to Rs 746.

Wipro at Rs 505 and TCS at Rs 1,650 were down over 1% each. Hindalco slipped 1% to Rs 162.
