The Sensex ended (provisional) at 17,406 - down 121 points.
The Nifty ended (provisoonal) down 44 points at 5,205.

The Sensex is at the day's low of 17,425 - down 102 points. The Nifty is down 38 points at 5,211.

The markets have extended their losses in the past hour. The Sensex is quoting at 17443, weaker by 83 points and the Nifty is at 5218, down 31 points.
The top losers on the Nifty are Idea (weaker by 4.4% at Rs 59), Sterlite (down 3.6% at Rs 872) and DLF (lower by 3.1% at Rs 386).
Tata Steel, Reliance Communication and SBI are the other major losers.
On the other hand, the IT stocks have sustained their strength. Wipro has surged 5.2% to Rs 696, TCS has gained 4.8% at Rs 749 and HCL Tech has added 3.8% at Rs 368. Infosys has rallied 3.5% to Rs 2577.
The market breadth has turned distinctly weak. There are 466 advancing stocks as against 821 declines.
