After opening with a positive gap of 99 points at 19,690, the Sensex rallied to a high of 19,919 - up 328 points from the previous close - on the back of fresh buying in morning trades.

The index, however, could not hold gains and slipped into the negative zone by mid-noon trades. Aggressive profit-taking in the market saw the index slip to 19,338 - down 581 points from the day's high.

The Sensex finally ended (provisional) with a loss of 147 points at 19,443.
