Despite a record single-day gain (894 points) yesterday, the Sensex opened just 19 points higher at 19,948 and soon slipped into the negative zone owing to weak global cues. After the initial weakness, the index clawed back into the positive zone but could only manage to touch a high of 19,967.

Fresh selling at higher levels saw the index drop to 19,723 - down 244 points from the day's high. The index, thereafter, exhibited range-bound movement and finally settled (provisional) with a loss of 168 points at 19,761.
