Mirroring weakness in global markets, the Sensex opened with a negative gap of 180 points at 19,110, and soon slipped below the 19,000-mark. Fresh buying at lower levels saw the index cut some of its losses and touch a high of 19,210. Persistent weakness in select counters - viz Bharti Airtel and the banking stocks - saw the index slip back below the 19,000-mark to a low of 18,917. However, the index moved back above the 19,000-mark and eventually finished (provisional) with a loss of 205 points at 19,085. |
