Sensex ends down 448pts at 17,628

The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 85 points at 17,991 on bearish cues from the Asian markets. Unabated selling saw the index slip deeper into the red as the day progressed.

The index dropped to a low of 17,506 - down 570 points from the previous close - in late noon trades. Some recovery towards the close saw the Sensex end (provisional) with a loss of 448 points at 17,628.

The NSE Nifty ended (provisional) 122 points lower at 5,159.
