The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 44 points at 19,103, and soon rallied to a new all-time intra-day high of 19,174. Profit-taking on account of weak global markes saw the index slip into red.

The index slipped to a low of 18,778 - down 396 points from the peak. Fresh buying, thereafter, saw the index recover most of its losses at close. The Sensex finally ended (provisional) with a loss of 47 points at 19,012.
