The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 48 points at 14,619. Fresh buying in early trades saw the index rally to a high of 14,683. The index, however, could not hold gains for long as selling pressure mainly in auto and cement stocks forced the index slip to the negative zone.

The selling picked momentum in late noon trades and the index dropped to a low of 14,466 - down 217 points from the day's high. The Sensex finally ended with a loss of 75 points at 14,496.
