The Sensex opened with a significant negative gap of 292 points at 15,684 on the back weak cues from the global markets. Follow-up selling, thereafter, saw the index slide to a low of 15,362 - down 614 points from the previous week. Renewed buying interest in select counters helped the index recoup losses and stage a smart recovery. As buying spread to other counters, the index recovered all its losses and rebounded into the positive zone to a high of 15,998 - up 636 points from the day's low. The Sensex finally ended (provisional) the day with a loss of 82 points at 15,893. The NSE Nifty, recovered sharply from the day's low of 4,621, and finished (provisional) with a gain of 18 points at 4,790. |
