Sensex ends down over 500pts at 18,120

The Sensex opened with a huge negative gap of 416 points at 18,247 on weak global cues. The index plunged to a low of 17,936 - down 727 points from the previous close - in morning deals.

The index recovered soon, but moved in a range of 18,000-18,200 for most part of the trading session.

The Sensex finally ended (provisional) with a loss of 543 points at 18,120.

The NSE Nifty was down (provisional) 169 points at 5,315.
