Sensex ends record-breaking week on dismal note

The Sensex, which scaled a new all-time, intra-day high of 10,195 during the week, tumbled on the last trading day to close below the 10,000-mark at 9981 - a loss of 130 points (1.28%) when compared with its previous week's close of 10,111.

The fall in the index was primarily led by Reliance Industries, which accounted for a loss of 34 points due to the 3.7% drop in price. Infosys, ICICI Bank, HDFC and ONGC were the other laggards this week.

HLL was the major gainer - the stock soared over 11% and contributed 43 points to the index. Bajaj Auto, Dr.Reddy's and Tata Motors were some of the other gainers among the Sensex stocks this week. 

Other gainers & losers - Goodricke zoomed 42.7% (Rs 36) to Rs 120. Jagatjit, Diana Tea, Williamson, Warren Tea, Stone India and Jindal Drilling also ended with huge gains in the range of 30-42% each.

Wyeth slumped 20.5% to Rs 607 - a drop of Rs 156. Jain Studios, Triveni Glass, Nitin Spinners, Celebrity Fashions, Jaypee Hotels, Ceekay Daikin, Ganesh Forgings and National Aluminium were the other major losers this week.

As per Sebi data, foreign institutional investors were net buyers to the tune of Rs 23.30 crore, and mutual funds pumped in Rs 109.32 crore till Thursday.
