Sensex ends up 130pts

The Sensex ended at 17,152, higher by 130 points, and the Nifty shut at 5096, up 44 points (provisional closing).

The Sensex touched a high of 17,214 on the back of continued buying in Reliance shares. The index is now at 17,190, up 170 points. The NSE Nifty is at 5,102, up 50 points.

Among the index gainers, Reliance Industries continue to top the list of gainers, up 3% from the previous close. Tata Steel, ITC and ICICI Bank are up 2.5% each at Rs 567, Rs 267 and Rs 919, respectively.

Grasim, ONGC, Sterlite, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Power and Maruti are the other prominet gainers, up 1-2% each.

 

Bharti Airtel is the major dragger, down 4.5% at Rs 276. Jaiprakash Associates, Infosys and Hindalco have declined 1% each,

The market breadth is fairly positive, out of 2,791 shares traded, 1,604 have advanced and 1,113 have declined so far on the BSE.
