Sensex ends up 142pts at 14,806

Taking cues from the overseas markets and backed by the newfound optimism, the Sensex opened with a positive gap of 56 points at 14,720 and then did not bother to look back.

Aggressive buying mainly in heavyweights Bharti Airtel, SBI and Hindustan Unilever saw the index rally to a fresh all-time intra-day high of 14,828 - just 172 points shy of the 15,000-mark. The Sensex finally ended the day on a buoyant note at 14,806 - up 142 points.
