Sensex ends up 247pts at 16,587

The Sensex opened marginally lower at 16,329 - down 11 points - and slipped to a low of 16,253. Nervousness in early trades saw the index swing in and out of the positive zone.

The index, thereafter, moved steadily higher amid intra-day bouts of profit-taking. The Sensex touched a high of 16,595, and finally settled (provisional) with a gain of 247 points at 16,587.

The NSE Nifty ended (provisional) 69 points higher at 4,933.
