Sensex ends up 257pts

The Sensex finally ended (provisional) at 14,916, up 257 points.

SensexThe Sensex has rallied on the back of fresh buying in banking ,healthcare and power stocks. The index has touched a high of 14,941, up 442 points from the day's low. The index is now at 14,900, up 243 points.

The BSE Bankex has added 2.25% at 8,464.

HDFC has soared 6% to Rs 2,549. Tata Steel and Mahindra & Mahindra have advanced around 4% each to Rs 437 and Rs 740, respectively.

SBI and ICICI Bank have added over 3% each to Rs 1,816 and Rs 755, respectively.

 

Reliance Infrastructures has gained 2.5% at Rs 1,288.

Jaiprakash Associates, Larsen & Toubro, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, BHEL and Tata Power are up 1.5% each.

While, Hero Honda has slipped 1% to Rs 1,370.

The market breadth is marginally negative- out of 2,616 shares traded, 1,243 have advanced and 1,284 have declined so far on the BSE.
