The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 73 points at 14,237. After extending gains in early trades the index wiped-out its entire gains and touched a low of 14,164 in late morning trades.

However, fresh buying at lower levels saw the index bounce back to higher levels. The recovery was on rather lower volumes as anxious market players preffered to sit on the sidelines ahead of the weekend holidays owing to the current political crisis.

The index rallied to a high of 14,455, and finally settled with a gain of 261 points at 14,425.
