Sensex ends up 274pts

The Sensex has ended (provisional) at 17,199, up 274 points. The NSE Nifty is at 5,121, up 89 points.

Buying in the realty, auto and banking stocks have helped the Sensex to touch a high of 17,195.23. The index is now at 17, 173, up 250 points. The NSE Nifty is at 5,117, up 85 points.

Sun Pharma and Tata Motors have added 5.5% each to Rs 1,538 and Rs 697, respectively.

DLF and Mahindra & Mahindra have advanced 5% each to Rs 370 and Rs 1,076, respectively. The prominent gainers are Sterlite, Reliance, Reliance Infrastructure, Hindalco, ICICI Bank, Reliance Communications and SBI, up 2-3% each.

Hindustan Unilever on the other hand is down 2%.

The realty index has added 6% at 3,870.77. The other prominent sectoral indices include auto, healthcare. bankex and oil & gas, up 2-3% each.

The market breadth is positive, out of 2,790 shares traded, 1,966 have advanced and 756 have declined so far on the BSE.
