Sensex ends up 306pts

The Sensex finally ended (provisional) at 15,694, up 306 points. The Nifty ended at 4,649, up 78 points.

The Sensex pared some gains and touched a low of 15,449, down 283 from the high touched in the initial hours. The Sensex is now at 15,583 up 193 points.

Among the sectoral indices, FMCG index led the rally, followed by Bankex.

Bharti Airtel has slipped 3.5% to Rs 409. Hero Honda has declined 2.5% to Rs 1,599. DLF and Reliance Communications have shed 1.5% each.

Tata Motors has rallied over 5% to Rs 415. SBI and ONGC have soared nearly 5% to Rs 1,807 and Rs 1,152, respectively.

Sterlite and Sun Pharma have advanced over 2% each to Rs 641 and Rs 1,170, respectively.

Hindustan Unilever, Tata Steel and HDFC have gained nearly 2% each.

The NSE Nifty is now at 4,611, up 65 points. Among the other major gainers, Ambuja Cement and Idea have surged over 3% each.

The market breadth is negative - out of 2,780 stocks, 1,366 have declined, ,while 1,303 have advanced.
