Sensex ends up 416pts at 17,024

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 209 points at 16,817. Renewed buying interest in the markets saw the index rally past the 17,000-mark to a high of 17,141.

Some profit-taking, thereafter, saw the index pare gains and touch a low of 16,726. The Sensex finally ended (provisional) with a gain of 416 points at 17,024.

The NSE Nifty moved up 114 points to 4,952.
