The Sensex opened with a bang at 14,978 - up 494 points - on the back of Nuclear Supplers' Group (NSG) waiver which India received over the weekend. The index soon crossed the 15,000-mark and touched a high of 15,107.
Positive cues from other global markets, after the US government decided to buy Fannie and Freddie also boosted the sentiment. The index displayed strength throughout the day with gains across-the-board.
However, selective profit-taking towards the close saw the index pare some gains and touch a low of 14,917. The Sensex finally ended with a significant gain of 445 points at 14,929.
