Sensex ends up 967pts at 16,256

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 324 points at 15,613 on the back of firm trend in the global markets. Aggressive buying in financial, realty and technology stocks saw the index surge to higher levels as the day progressed.

The index finally settled (provisional) with a gain of 967 points at 16,256.

The NSE Nifty ended with a gain of 284 points at 4,894.
