Sensex ends up over 580pts

The Sensex opened with a huge positive gap of 172 points at 17,820, but dropped to a low of 17,535 in morning deals.

Renewed buying at lower levels saw the index zoom to a high of 18,312 towards the closing bell.

The Sensex finally closed with a gain of 584 points (provisional) at 18233.
