Sensex ends up over 870pts at 17,823

The Sensex opened with a huge positive gap of over 300 points at 17,265, which turned out to be the low for the day.

Sustained buying in heavyweights like L&T, Reliance and ICICI Bank saw the index zoom to a high of 17,837 - an intr-day gain of over 880 points - towards the closing bell.

The Sensex finally closed (provisional) with a huge gain of 874 points at 17,823.
