Sensex extends gains, up 122pts

The Sensex has extended gains and is now up 122 points at 9,690. Earlier the day, the index opened 65 points higher at 9,633, and soon touched a high of 9,739. The index thereafter slipped into red to 9,547 - down 192 points from the day's high.

Tata Steel and Tata Motors have surged nearly 5% each to Rs 206 and Rs 181, respectively. Jaiprakash Associates has rallied 4.7% to Rs 82.

Reliance Communications has gained 4.3% at Rs 175, and Reliance Infrastructure has added 4% to Rs 523.

Mahindra & Mahindra, ITC and Bharti Airtel have advanced nearly 3% each to Rs 381, Rs 184 and Rs 626, respectively.

 

Larsen & Toubro, Ranbaxy and Infosys have moved up around 2.5% each to Rs 667, Rs 162 and Rs 1,328, respectively.

Reliance, ACC and SBI  are up 2% each at Rs 1,546, Rs 576 and Rs 1,041, respectively.

HDFC has shed 1.6% at Rs 1,427. ICICI Bank has slipped 1% to Rs 334.

The market breadth is positive - out of 2,048 stocks traded so far, 1,184 have advanced, 773 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
