Sensex extends gains, up 140pts

Brisk buying in the IT stocks has moved the Sensex up and it is now 141 points higher at 15,149. The BSE IT index has soared 3% to 3,166.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys and Grasim have advanced 4% each to Rs 719, Rs 1,692 and Rs 2,460, respectively.

Ranbaxy and Hindalco have added 3.5% each to Rs 293 and Rs 93, respectively.

ICICI Bank and Tata Power have soared 3% each to Rs 765 and Rs 1,072, respectively.

Sun Pharma has gained 2.7% at Rs 1,342.

BHEL, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever, Sterlite, HDFC Bank, ACC, Maruti, Tata Steel and HDFC are up 1-2% each.

 

ITC has tumbled 5% to Rs 193. Reliance Infrastructures has slipped 2% to Rs 1,248. 

NTPC, Reliance and SBI are down 1-2% each.

The breadth is still positive, out of 2,759 shares traded,1,769 have advanced and 938 have declined so far on the BSE.
