Sensex extends losses

The Sensex has once again slipped into the negative zone. The index is now at the day's low - down 165 points at 16,615.

The Nifty is down 41 points at 4,954.

Hindalco has dropped 2.5% to Rs 126. Tata Steel and Sterlite have shed 2% each at Rs 201 and Rs 748, respectively.

IT stocks - TCS, Infosys and Wipro have slipped around 2% each to Rs 586, Rs 2,241 and Rs 570, respectively.

ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra have declined aroudn 1% each.

However, Sun Pharma has added 2.5% to Rs 1,254.

 

The market breadth is positive. Out of 2,725 shares traded, 1,616 have advanced while 1,006 have declined.
