Sensex extends losses; TCS slumps 6%

The Sensex has extended losses and is now down 151 points at 9,504. Earlier in the day, the index after a marginally (24 points) positive start at 9,679, touched a high of 9,746 in early trades, and then slipped into red.

Jaiprakash Associates and Sterlite have soared 7% each to Rs 80 and Rs 291, respectively.

Reliance Communications has rallied 4% to Rs 237. ACC has surged 3% to Rs 491, and Tata Motors has gained 2.6% at Rs 167.

ICICI Bank has gained 2% at Rs 408.

Satyam has slumped 6.6% to Rs 221. TCS has tumbled 6% to Rs 509, and Wipro has plunged 5.5% to Rs 248.

 

Hindalco has shed 4.3% at Rs 51. Infosys has dropped 3.7% to Rs 1,131.

BHEL has slipped 3.3% to Rs 1,366, and DLF has declined 2.6% to Rs 256.

Reliance, NTPC, Hindustan Unilever, Reliance Infrastructure and Tata Power are down around 2% each.

The market breadth is fairly positive - out of 2,410 stocks traded so far, 1,449 have advanced, 868 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
