The Sensex today opened with a loss of 92 points at 16,191 - on weak global cues. The index then broke the 16,000 level and touched a low of 15,994 - down 289 points.
The Sensex has recovered marginally and is now down 192 points at 16,090.
The Nifty is down 57 points at 4,769.
Sterlite has slumped 3.3% to Rs 735. DLF has shed 3% at Rs 391.
Reliance Communications, Tata Motors and ICICI Bank dropped 2.5% each to Rs 198, Rs 548 and Rs 792, respectively.
Jaiprakash Associates, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, SBI, Hero Honda and Reliance Infrastructure are down 1-2% each.
Reliance and NTPC has slipped around 1% each.
