Sensex firm; RCom, Rel Infra soar 8%

The Sensex has firmed up and is now up 420 points at 9,385. Earlier in the day, the index opened with a significant positive gap of 312 points at 9,277 following the double bonanza - RBI cutting rates and the government announcing a stimulus package - over the weekend.

Tata Steel has zoomed nearly 12% to Rs 205, and DLF has soared 9.5% to Rs 222.

Reliance Communications has surged over 8% to Rs 214. Reliance Infrastructure has gained 7.5% at Rs 572.

Bharti Airtel, HDFC, Wipro and Jaiprakash Associates have rallied 7% each to Rs 712, Rs 1,538, Rs 243 and Rs 71, respectively.

 

ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Grasim have moved up over 5.5% each to Rs 379, Rs 939 and Rs 992, respectively.

Tata Power, SBI, Sterlite and NTPC are up around 5% each at Rs 704, Rs 1,193, Rs 257 and Rs 169, respectively.

Out of 2,385 stocks traded so far, 1,527 have advanced, 786 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
