Sensex firm; Tata Motors slips 6%

The Sensex is now up 182 points at 9,249. Earlier in the day, the index opened 62 points higher at 9,129, and soon touched a high of 9,225. The index, thereafter, had slipped into red to a low of 9,041 - down 184 points from the day's high.

Grasim has soared 7.5% to Rs 1,279, and ACC has surged 5.5% to Rs 521.

Reliance, ICICI Bank and Wipro have rallied around 3.5% each to Rs 1,322, Rs 398 and Rs 228, respectively.

BHEL and Maruti have moved up 3.3% each to Rs 1,351 and Rs 585, respectively.

TCS and ONGC have advanced 3% each to Rs 507 and Rs 658, respectively.

 

ITC, Reliance Infrastructure and Bharti Airtel are up around 2.5% each at Rs 183, Rs 534 and Rs 631, respectively.

DLF has slumped 13% to Rs 133. Tata Motors has tumbled 6% to Rs 134.

NTPC and Hindalco are down 1% each at Rs 179 and Rs 46, respectively.

The market breadth is negative - out of 2,458 stocks traded so far, 1,222 have declined, 1,108 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
