Sensex firm; Wipro, TCS surge

The Sensex has extended gains and is now up 241 points at 8,915. The index witnessed a marginal negative knee-jerk reaction following a status-quo policy from tthe RBI, however, it soon stabilised thereafter.

The Reserve Bank of India in its quarterly review of the Credit Policy today left all key rates - repo, reverse repo and Cash Reserve Ratio - unchanged.

Sterlite has soared 8% to Rs 259. Wipro and Reliance Infrastructure have surged over 6% each to Rs 227 and Rs 515, respectively.

TCS and Reliance have rallied 5% each to Rs 510 and Rs 1,210, respectively.

Infosys, Grasim, Maruti and BHEL have advanced over 4% each to Rs 1,255, Rs 1,185, Rs 537 and Rs 1,375, respectively.

 

Tata Motors and Jaiprakash Associates have gained 4% each at Rs 141 and Rs 64, respectively.

SBI and Bharti Airtel have moved up 3.7% each to Rs 1,080 and Rs 638, respectively.

Tata Steel and Sun Pharma are up 3.5% each at Rs 172 and Rs 1,113, respectively.

ONGC has shed 2.5% at Rs 629, and Larsen & Toubro has slipped 1.6% to Rs 631.
