Sensex flat; banking, tech stocks edge lower

Weakness in banking, tech and other select old economy has trimmed the gains of the index. The Sensex, as a result, is now up a point at 6,369. The Nifty is up six points at 1,990.

ONGC is trading firm with a surge of 3.38% (Rs 28) at Rs 862, while Reliance is up a notch at Rs 549. SBI is trading higher with a gain of 1.42% (Rs 9) at Rs 650.

HDFC has notched up 5.79% gains (Rs 40) to Rs 728, and Tata Power has gained 1.90% (Rs 6) to Rs 346.

Hero Honda (up Rs 8 or 1.62% to Rs 528), Bajaj (up Rs 5 to Rs 1,025), Maruti (up Rs 6 or 1.46% to Rs 417) and Tata Motors (up Rs 3 to Rs 411) are trading at higher levels.

ICICI Bank at Rs 379 (down Rs 11 or 2.86%) and HDFC Bank at Rs 531 (down Rs 6) are still witnessing weak trends.

ITC and HLL are down a rupee each at Rs 1,275 and Rs 131, respectively.

Wipro has declined 1.25% (Rs 9) to Rs 633. Other tech pivotals are also trading weak.

Ranbaxy has shed 2.36% (Rs 25) to Rs 1,038. Bharti continues to languish in negative territory at Rs 203 - down Rs 3.
