Sensex flat; Hindalco, ICICI Bank up 4%

The Sensex has slipped back into the negative zone and is now down 10 points at 10,813.

Earlier in the day, the index opened a tad higher at 10,831 and spurted to a high of 10,898. Selling soon emerged and the index tumbled into the negative zone to a low of 10,623 - down 275 points from the day's high.

Hindalco has surged 4% to Rs 199. ICICI Bank has rallied 3.8% to Rs 593, and Cipla is up 3% at Rs 234.

ACC and Satyam have moved up nearly 3% each to Rs 772 and Rs 704, respectively.

HDFC Bank has dropped 4.6% to Rs 750.

HDFC, ONGC and Tata Power have shed over 3% each to Rs 1,200, Rs 1,199 and Rs 533, respectively.

Ranbaxy and Reliance Energy are down over 2% each at Rs 435 and Rs 537, respectively.

Out of 2,096 stocks traded so far, 1,394 have advanced, 665  have declined and the rest are unchanged.

Reliance tops the value chart with a turnover of Rs 74.47 crore followed by Tata Steel (Rs 28.86 crore), Mahindra Gesco (Rs 27.45 crore), Unichem Labs (Rs 27.14 crore) and Hindalco (Rs 23.86 crore).

G V Films leads the volume chart with trades of around 50 lakh shares followed by IFCI (23.53 lakh), Essar Oil (16.57 lakh), SAIL (16.35 lakh) and Reliance Petro (14.20 lakh).
