The Sensex has opened on a flat note at 17,491 tracking subdued global cues. The index is now at 17,451, down 11 points and the Nifty is now eight points down at 5,224.
Among the Sensex-30 stocks, Reliance Communications and Sterlite Industries have added 1% each at Rs 189 and Rs 696, respectively.
The other major gainers are Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries and Cipla, up 0.5% each.
On the other hand SBI, HDFC and Infosys are down 0.5% each.
The market breadth is positive, out of 1,743 shares traded, 1,002 have advanced and 678 have declined so far on the BSE.
