Sensex flat in early trades; Tata Steel, M&M firm

The Sensex opened flat at 8,942 - down two points. The index slipped to a low of 8,901, and has now rebounded into the positive zone. The index is now up four points at 8,948.

Tata Steel and Mahindra & Mahindra have rallied over 2% each to Rs 172 and Rs 382, respectively.

ICICI Bank has gained 1.7% at Rs 328. NTPC, DLF and Hindustan Unilever have advanced over 1% each to Rs 173, Rs 164 and Rs 238, respectively.

TCS has slumped nearly 4% to Rs 500. Infosys has shed 1.5% at Rs 1,269.

Tata Power, Tata Motors, Reliance Communications and Sun Pharma are down around 1% each at Rs 667, Rs 165, Rs 155 and Rs 991, respectively.
