Sensex flat in opening trades

The Sensex has opened on a flat note taking cues from global peers. The index is now up 63 points at 17,679. Nifty is up 17 points at 5,291.

Among the Sensex-30 stocks, Reliance Communications and Jaiprakash Associates have added 2% each at Rs 193 and Rs 131, respectively. The other major gainers are TCS, Tata Power, Reliance and Mahindra & Mahindra, up over 1% each.

On the other hand Sterlite Industries and ICICI Bank are down 1% each at Rs 687 and Rs 876, respectively on the BSE.

The market breadth is positive, out of 1,509 shares traded, 1,031 have advanced and 429 have declined so far on the BSE.
