Sensex flat; market breadth very positive

The Sensex is now almost flat at 12,388, down one point.

Hindalco has spurted 2% to Rs 176. BHEL and Tata Steel have gained 1.5% each at Rs 2,345 and Rs 545, respectively.

Gujarat Ambuja and Larsen & Toubro have advanced over 1% each to Rs 122 and Rs 1,276, respectively.

HDFC Bank, Reliance Communications and NTPC are the other prominent gainers.

Tata Motors has slipped 1% to Rs 885. HDFC, Wipro, Grasim, Bajaj Auto, ITC, Satyam and SBI are the other notable losers.

The market breadth is extremely positive - out of 1,926 stocks traded so far, 1,297 have advanced, 576 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
